How does it feel to be back?
How does it feel to be back to Brazil after 16 months abroad, mainly in a developed country, where everything seems previously thought, organised and easier? Not an easy question!
Certainly, some “normal” facts are now annoying and uncomfortable. Taking precautions in order to avoid being mugged bothers me profoundly; constantly seeing the wealth gap between rich and poor feels really wrong; and the big-brother-star success concept is frustrating.
On the other hand, the list of great cultural and personal aspects doesn’t seem to end soon. Meeting family, being surrounded by long term awesome friends and realizing the power of the networks in my job hunting effort are bringing me comforting happiness.
Amongst the cultural and natural things, highlights go to:
- Ever green scenery;
- Tropical fruits;
- People aware, discussing and acting upon social issues;
- A good number of companies, individuals and media channels engaged in the sustainability dialogue;
- Client oriented services and kindness;
- …and, to top it up, the feeling of being one in the crowd of an Ivete Sangalo’s show, what should probably be considered the most energetic spectacle on Earth!
Wanna feel a little bit of it? Play below, enjoy and start planning your trip to Brazil!
The lyrics, by Jorge Ben, say (free translation):
"I live in a tropical place
Blessed by God
And naturally beautiful
How wonderful!
In February
There is carnaval
I've got a beetle and a guitar
I support Flamengo and have a black sweetheart called Tereza"
See you here!

WOW! I totally agree: such a concert should be indeed the most energetic gathering of people... I feel great just by watching the video! -but you know I love Ivete! :-)
You've put in a very clear way the mix of feelings/impressions you're having once back home. I haven't experienced it myself but I can identify with both the positive and negative realities of our countries. I guess coping or not coping goes down to what we really value in life and how responsible we are in being consistent with those values. The hard bit is to realise that our values keep changing and evolving as we grow and experience new things/places/people. So let's not ever stop asking ourselves who we are and what we value. Then let's embrace whatever answer comes from our inner-selves.
Muchos besitos para ti desde Sydney,
Liz
that concert looks insane, very jealous!
Well... Welcome Gabi!
For sure the integration curve will keep amazing until it stars again but probably in a different level, with different aspects on it.
YES!! energy is on the menu everyday in Brazil...
good saudades :)
beijos, tons of good wishes for Xmas and all the best today and the brand new 2008.
Question: does this things that make you feel good and bad were already strong "goods" and "bads" previously or they became stronger after the abroad experience?
Oi Gabi! encontrei seu blog, legal saber como vc esta...adorei o video, eu sou fa da Ivete, amo shows dela..vc tava lah mesmo?

Liz, Karla and Zuzka,
Believe me: I really went to the concert! It was awesome and did represent some of the things I love about Brazil: optimism, diversity, people united and obviously an incomparable energy.
Jota,
Thanks for the question! I guess all the good and bad facts I mentioned existed in my perspective before I left. But they definitely became stronger, as they stopped being the absolute to become a situation compared to another. In that scenario, the "goods" start being an unique natural asset, whereas the "bads" can annoy us deeply, as we see they don't necessarily need to exist. Does that make sense?
Thanks for the comments!
