Heading for the future

Lots of people amongst my group of friends are finishing important phases in life and / or taking important decisions. So 10 days ago we organised a friends gathering / heading for the future conference. Objectives:
- self assessment and reflection
- inspiration and next steps planning
- having a good time close to friends and nature!
Cool, isn't it?

Kana, Josh and Lucy were great in leading us through this journey and I need to confess the outcomes were stronger than I could predict. Deep reflections about entrepreneurship and sense of belonging vs. current state are still in my mind.

One of the main insights for me was to realise that the "time in a company before I do something else" might not only not deliver the money, skills or anything else we say we seek, but kill the entrepreneurship spirit, which is probably the most important thing, as we need to be sort of domesticated in those environments.

Fala Lindona!
I'm quiet here in Denmark but keep on following your adventures. Based on my experience, working for big companies doesn't necessarily kills entrepreneurial spirit. Three things might happen:

1. you learn to control it and become a "tempered radical", and start intrapreneurial initiatives. If you're good, you can stay there for quite a while, and then quit.

2. you don't control it, face lots of problems and quit when the chance appears.

3. You get domesticated and "enjoin" the system. Forget your ideals and become cynical about it.

Some "variations" might happen as the world has more than 3 colors, but that's the general idea.

What are you thinking about? Aren´t you going to share some of your reflections and plans?? :D

Big hugs
Veds

Hi, Gabi.

My name´s is Rosane and I´m from @RJ. Now, I´m doing a traineeship in Portugal and after 7 months I realized that I could´t make all things that I planned to do here. All your comments in your Bloog makes me feel really happy with the possibility to feel this "moving on" feelings.
So, even with just more 5 months, I want to follow your steps and increase my traineeship experience. So, I would like to invite you to be my COACH in this amazing experience. I want to talk to you about my future plans, my doubts and my feelings. Can we schedule a meeting on Messenger to talk about it? I know that now you´re probably full of things to do, but I really want to talk with you about it. My msn is rms_machado@yahoo.com.br

Thanks to inspire me...

Best Regards. Rosane

Having a day job does not mean you're killing your entrepreneural spirit. Hopefully you're pushing it forward by ensuring personal resources. In the best scenario your entrepreneural projects match with the big company you work for projections. It's worth to explore around.

Hope you keep doing good. Greeting to Jhow & Lucy.

All the best Gabi!
Besitos,
KT

Hello guys,

Thanks a lot for your comments! I love to receive some extra thoughts to etsome more perspective and hopefully get wiser.

Veds, I think you’re certainly right when you say we can react very differently once we face the strictness of bureaucracies in big structures. (Over)simplifying what I perceive, it seems to me that sometimes it’s bad (your options 2 and 3) or not too bad (option 1), but never good – if this makes any sense. And the interesting this is that the problem of employees not getting motivated by something else than the direct result of their happen even in organisations like UNDP, as I was discussing with a friend who worked very close to them recently. Maybe the size is a bad thing in itself… what do you think?

Talking about me, I’m pretty open to job proposals ;o) At the moment, I think I’d like to do strategy consultancy or development work for a while, with focus on Latin America. Meanwhile, I can hopefully add some volunteer work (e.g. in the Our Sao Paulo: Another City movement) or start seriously designing our company.

Thanks guys!

Gabi.
